On the 10th Anniversary of Our Move to Philadelphia (then Boston four years later)

Adirondack Nostalgia

Ten years ago we left you

Traded your high peaks for high rises

Surrounded by horns and tarmac haze

Traded peace for opportunity

I cried

There are no mountains here

Years of grafting

Fern Lake to a city down the shore

And the AuSable to the Charles

The chemical makeup is the same

But these new bodies are strange

Some days feel like the transplant didn’t take

Adirondack roots will not let go

The park ties us tightly to itself

The sights

The smells

The sounds

The eerie loon call of nostalgia pulls us back

Again and again

Like waves on the shore of Lake Champlain

Home means people

But the place is a second definition

Palmer Street

Setting foot where your generations have trod

There is deep connection

Home calls us constantly

It rings in the recesses

Maybe ten years more

Maybe twenty

Give us time to live out our opportunities

We will answer
