On My First Father’s Day Without My Dad

I miss you every minute of every day.

There are moments when my heart aches so much it feels like it might burst. 

The unfathomable absence you left indicates just how much you loved me and our family.

How much of yourself you gave to us.

And how much we loved you for it. 

I am reminded of you constantly.

You are reflected in the people who knew you and loved you.

Your words are always tumbling out of my mouth.

My memories of you bring joy and sadness in equal measure. 

I wish I could have one more hug.

I wish I could tell you how much I love you one more time.

I wish I could thank you for everything.  

The fact that you knew, and the memories you left, and the beautiful lessons you instilled…

it will have to be enough.

Until I see you again,

it will be enough.
